Q. When I hire the prep kitchen, will it be private or shared?
A. We only offer private sessions. You won’t share the prep kitchen with anyone else during your session.

Q. How can I find out about the latest availability of the prep kitchen space?

Q. How large is the prep kitchen space?
A. The prep kitchen space is around 20 square metres, plus there is extra space available in the warehouse area.

Q. What equipment do I need to bring when I hire the prep kitchen session?

Q. How much does it cost to hire the prep kitchen?
A. Our full price list is here.

Q. Are there any types of cooking that aren't permitted at the Sussex Prep Kitchen?
A. We don't permit deep-fat frying or any open-flame cookery. We are 100% electric (no gas) so we permit oven baking, microwave cooking and the use of plug-in induction hobs* for light frying and making sauces and stocks.

(*Induction hobs are not provided but can be purchased new here or secondhand from many sources)

Q. Will I have to pay extra for water, electricity use and disposing of waste?
A. No. That's all included within your hire charge.

Q. Does the Sussex Prep Kitchen provide storage space?
A. Yes, we have a large warehouse area for storing equipment, stock, packaging and marketing materials - in fact, anything you need extra space to store. Full details of what's available and the hire charges can be found here. We also provide chilled and frozen storage options too.

Q. Can vehicles access the Sussex Prep Kitchen easily for deliveries and collections?
A. Yes. Our loading bay features a roller shutter door and vehicle ramp for easy loading and unloading. We have excellent transport links with Worthing to the west, Brighton to the east, and the rest of Sussex to the north. Quick road links via the A27 and A259 are very closeby.

Q. Is there free parking at the Sussex Prep Kitchen?
A. Yes. We have a large forecourt in front of our unit where clients can park free during their prep sessions and if loading / unloading.

Q. Can I operate a takeaway / fast-food delivery business from the Sussex Prep Kitchen, in conjunction with a company like Deliveroo or Just Eat?
A. The terms of our lease don't allow an operation where customers collect from our premises, or where Deliveroo / Just Eat delivery drivers come to collect. However, you are permitted to cook food at the Sussex Prep Kitchen and use a single deliver driver to take it to your customers.

Q. I don't have my own transport - can the Sussex Prep Kitchen help me with that?
A. Yes. We offer an electric van hire service which can transport you and your equipment to/from the Sussex Prep Kitchen, can assist with your deliveries and collect stock from your suppliers. More details here.

Q. What are the hours of access to the Sussex Prep Kitchen?
A. Access is available 24/7, 365 days a year. Staff are onsite most days within regular working hours. Regular hirers will be provided with a key for convenience of access.

Q. How secure is the Sussex Prep Kitchen?
A. CCTV is in operation 24 hours a day inside the Sussex Prep Kitchen where sound and images are monitored remotely and recorded for crime prevention and as a safety measure for hirers. There is also an external CCTV system at Hove Enterprise Centre operated by Shoreham Port.

Q. Is the Sussex Prep Kitchen registered with the local authority?
A. It is your responsibility as a food business, by law, to register with the local authority who will conduct periodic inspections of your business, after which which you will receive a food hygiene rating.

Q. Can I register my food business at the Sussex Prep Kitchen for the purpose of food inspections?
A. Yes. We invite our regular clients to register their businesses at the Sussex Prep Kitchen so that their food hygiene inspections can take place at our premises. Your hygiene rating will depend on how you manage your business and the kitchen during your own prep sessions. The Sussex Prep Kitchen has been designed specifically to meet the criteria set out by the Environmental Health Team.

Q. What happens during an Environmental Health food inspection?

Q. Who is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and good hygiene practice at the Sussex Prep Kitchen?
A. As a shared space we expect our hirers to maintain cleanliness and good hygiene practice after each session. Detailed cleaning schedules are posted on the walls of the prep kitchen and printed cleaning checklists can be provided where required. We have created a simple list of 'house rules' to which we request all hirers to agree to for the benefit of all parties. The Sussex Prep Kitchen has its own contract cleaner who visits once a week to clean the prep kitchen and all common areas.

Q. What if I'm dissatisfied with the standard of cleanliness when I begin my prep session following another hirer?
A. Hirers should report any lapses in cleanliness immediately to a member of the Sussex Prep Kitchen team so that we can rectify this quickly and discuss the matter with the previous hirer. 

Q. Can I bring my children when I work at the Sussex Prep Kitchen?
A. No. As a commercial kitchen premises on a busy industrial estate there are health and safety risks that make it unsuitable for children.

Q. Do I need to sign-up to a long term contract to use the Sussex Prep Kitchen?
A. No. You can use the prep kitchen on an ad-hoc basis for as little as one hour. For regular hirers and keyholders we ask that you sign our standard Conditions of Hire.

Q. How does payment work?
A. We require prepayment for all of our services. After booking you will be sent an invoice which will need to be paid in full before the date of your booking. You can pay by direct bank transfer, all major debit and credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Q. I’m interested in using the Sussex Prep Kitchen - can I arrange a viewing?
